Players

Each team shall comprise eight players on court. During group stage matches, the format consists of 12 overs per side. Four bowlers deliver 2 overs each; an additional four bowlers bowl one over each. Batting pairs bat for three overs each. Following the toss, each team may designate a substitute player who can replace an existing player during the innings break.

Scoring

Scoring is split into physical runs and bonus runs. Physical runs are scored when both batsmen complete a run between creases. Bonus runs are scored when the ball hits a net zone:

Zone A0 runs
Zone B1 run
Zone C2 runs
Zone D (on bounce)4 runs
Zone D (on full)6 runs
Zone B or C onto Zone D3 runs
  • For bonus runs to count, at least one physical run must be scored. Bonus runs are added to the physical runs (e.g. ball hits back net on full = 6, plus 1 physical run = 7 total).
  • The batting team is credited 2 runs for a No Ball or Wide.
  • If the batsman hits a No Ball into a scoring zone, the zone score is added to the 2-run penalty provided the batsmen also complete a physical run.
  • Any physical runs made off a Wide are added to the 2-run penalty.

Dismissals

A batsman can be dismissed in the same ways as conventional cricket — with variations for LBW. Upon dismissal, 5 runs are deducted from the team's total and the batsman continues to bat. Batsmen bat in pairs for 3 overs regardless of whether they are dismissed.

  • A player can be "caught" by a ball rebounding off a net, except off a "six," as long as it has not previously touched the ground.
  • A batsman can only be dismissed LBW if they do not offer a shot and the umpire is satisfied the ball would have hit the stumps.
  • Third Ball rule applies to all matches.
  • If a batsman is given out, the batting team loses 5 runs and any runs scored off that delivery up until the time of dismissal will not count.

Run Deduction

The umpire reserves the authority to deduct 5 runs from the offending team's score in the event of verbal abuse or unsportsmanlike behavior. Each team must complete their 12 overs within 40 minutes. Failure results in a deduction of 5 runs for every 5-minute increment beyond the 40-minute mark.

Official RT Regulations

  • Squad Size: Each team must register a squad of 12 players. Only registered players are eligible to participate.
  • Player Eligibility: Fielding or playing an unregistered player in any capacity will result in automatic forfeiture of the match, and the victory will be awarded to the opposing team.
  • Player Replacement Policy: Replacements are allowed during the replacement window only (replacement windows will be announced during the league).
  • Umpire Communication: From the bowling side, only the team captain is permitted to request clarification from the umpire. From the batting side, either the captain or the batsmen may seek clarification. All appeals must be directed to the main umpire only; support umpires are not to be addressed regarding decisions.
  • The Umpire's decision is final — there will be no rematch, super-over, or alternate if a team feels hard done by a decision.
  • Identity Verification: The organizing committee reserves the right to request official identification from any player at any time during the tournament.

No Ball & Dead Ball

A delivery shall be considered a No Ball in the following cases:

  • If a full toss passes above the batsman's waist without the batsman advancing more than one step from their original stance. If the batsman does advance but the full toss reaches chest height or higher, it is still a No Ball. It will still be a No Ball if the ball then hits the stumps.
  • If a short-pitched delivery rises above shoulder height.
  • If no part of the bowler's foot is behind the bowling crease at the point of delivery.
  • If the bowler steps on the structural elements of the court (e.g. the steel frame) during the run-up.
  • There will be NO free hit after a No Ball.

A delivery shall be declared a Dead Ball (and rebowled) if the ball becomes stuck within the court infrastructure or exits the playing area — unless it leaves the court as a result of a fielding action (e.g. an overthrow) or after the batsman has been dismissed (bowled or caught).

  • If the ball gets stuck between two nets in the same zone, the batsman will only be allowed to take 1 physical run.

Runner

  • A player who becomes injured during the match may be granted a runner at the discretion of the umpire. This decision rests entirely with the umpire.
  • If a player is already injured before the start of the game, the decision to allow a runner will rest with the opposing team's captain.

Ball Remains Live Between Deliveries

The ball is LIVE throughout the over unless the umpire calls "Dead Ball," "Over," or a wicket falls. The ball will stay live without the umpire's call.

  • Batsmen may attempt a run at any time while the ball is live, even between deliveries (e.g. while the bowler is walking back to their run-up).
  • If a batsman is outside their crease while the ball is live, they can be run out if the fielding team legally breaks the stumps before the batter regains their ground. Batsmen should stay alert and remain inside their crease until the next ball begins.

Run-outs, Stumpings & Mankads

  • The wicket keeper may use the hand/s or the forearm of the hand/s holding the ball, or from the ball rebounding directly from the keeper's body onto the stumps, to attain a stumping.
  • The striker cannot be stumped off a No Ball. The striker can be given Run Out off a No Ball by the wicket keeper or a fielder, if in the umpire's opinion the striker did not make an immediate and deliberate attempt to regain their crease.
  • Only a wicketkeeper can stump a batter.
  • A fielder can run out a batter with either their hand/s or the forearm of their hand/s holding the ball, provided the ball is retained in the hand.
  • A batter will not be given out if the ball breaks the wicket after coming directly from a net. Conversely, a batter will be out should the ball, having come from a net, be touched by a member of the fielding side before breaking the wicket.
  • The stumps, when standing, must have some part of their base in their normal court position for a wicket to be taken. If the stumps are lying off their base, the fielding side must re-stand them upright with some part of the base in its normal court position. The fielding side need only hit an upright stump with the ball or the hand/s holding the ball to attempt a run-out.
  • The base plate is part of the stumps. A batter will be given out if at least one bail is completely removed from a stump if the ball hits the baseplate.
  • Mankad: The non-striker will be given out if they leave their crease prior to the ball being bowled and the bowler then completes a delivery action and breaks the stumps with the hand holding the ball. The ball must remain in the bowler's delivery hand throughout the mankad attempt.
  • If a bowler attempting a mankad releases the ball towards the non-striker's stumps during the delivery action, the umpire will call and signal No Ball.
  • When the non-striker holds their crease and a bowler makes an unsuccessful mankad attempt in any over, the non-striker will be credited with 2 runs. The unsuccessful mankad attempt does not count as part of an over and the 2 runs will not affect the score off the previous or following delivery.
  • An unsuccessful mankad attempt is where a bowler completes a bowling action and either breaks the stumps or, in the umpire's opinion, holds the ball near the stumps hoping the non-striker will leave early. Any mankad attempt where the stumps are not disturbed is still considered an unsuccessful mankad attempt.
  • If a bowler wants to warn the non-striker without incurring the 2-run penalty, they must complete a delivery action and intentionally keep the ball away from the stumps (e.g. finishing near or continuing past the popping crease).

Interference

  • Batsmen must not have their running path unfairly impeded. If their path has been unfairly impeded, batsmen are not to be given out and all runs will count. The fielding team will receive a warning; a second occurrence may result in a 5-run penalty.
  • The fielder has right of way provided they are legitimately fielding the ball.
  • A batsman will be out for Obstructing the Field if: they deliberately interfere with the ball while it is in play; or they deliberately obstruct or interfere with any member of the fielding team. Note: even when running in a straight line, it is the batter's responsibility to avoid fielders.
  • If the ball is struck or stopped by the striker more than once, except when preventing the ball from hitting the stumps (using bat or body only, not the hands), no runs may be scored. Any attempt to score in such a situation would constitute interference.
  • A player may not be guilty of obstruction if they do not move — this does not apply to a fielder who has moved from their initial position into a stationary position to obstruct a batter's normal pathway back to their crease.
  • If the ball is deliberately fielded prior to the batter having the opportunity to hit it, the fielding team will be penalized 5 runs and the ball will be rebowled.
  • The non-striker cannot impede the normal run-up or follow-through of a bowler. The umpire will warn the non-striker to move; refusal will result in a 5-run penalty.

Illegal Actions & Use of Super Sub

  • Illegal actions, as determined by the on-field umpire, are strictly prohibited.
  • Team captains are expected to use their Super Sub player responsibly and in accordance with league rules.
  • If a captain believes the umpire has misjudged an illegal action, an appeal may be submitted to the organizing committee. The committee's decision will be final and binding.

Decision Reviews

  • Each team is entitled to two (2) reviews per innings.
  • Reviews may only be requested for decisions relating to run-outs and stumpings.
  • Reviews must be initiated by the team captain or batsman within 15 seconds of the on-field decision.
  • If the evidence is deemed inconclusive or unclear after review, the on-field umpire's original decision shall stand.
  • In the event of a successful review, the reviewing team retains the review — it will not be deducted from their quota.

Disciplinary Actions

  • Unsportsmanlike behavior, including verbal abuse or disrespect toward an umpire or opposing team, may result in penalties, point deductions, order off, or suspension at the discretion of the committee.
  • A player found guilty of indiscipline or unsportsmanlike conduct in two consecutive matches will be suspended for one game.
  • Umpires must order off: any player whose conduct is extreme (fighting, striking, or threatening behavior); or a player who has received 2 individual misconduct penalties.
  • A player ordered off will take no further part in the game, may receive further sanctions, and will not be replaced. Teams revert to the Player Short Rule for batting and bowling.
  • If a team initiates a physical or verbal altercation, the match is awarded to the opposing team.
  • If both teams are involved in a confrontation and fail to exhibit sportsmanship, each team will be penalized 2 points and the match will be declared abandoned.

Match Start Time & Attendance

  • A minimum of 6 registered players must be present for a team to be eligible to start. Failure to meet this requirement may result in match forfeiture and points being awarded to the opposing team.
  • Each team is allotted a 10-minute grace period from the scheduled start time. After this period, a penalty of 5 runs will be deducted for every additional 5 minutes of delay, up to a maximum of 30 minutes from the official start time.
  • If the match is not underway within 30 minutes: the team that is ready to play will be awarded 2 points, and the match will be forfeited by the absent team.
  • If neither team is ready to play, the match will be abandoned and both teams receive 0 points.
